Essential Information

For Students

For Teachers

Reminder: these two codes are included in the e-mail confirming your access.
Note: The Student Key, specific to each child, is only usable at home. It can be retrieved directly from the dashboard (see below: After the activity ➚).

Getting the app ready for your students

In order to guide you through the setup of Math Ascension in the classroom, we have outlined each step so that you can follow them one by one.

Before Classroom Activity: Setup - 10 minutes

  1. Retrieve the confirmation email you received containing the School Key and the Teacher Pass.
  2. Log in to the dashboard (math-ascension.com/dashboard ➚) and add your name to the list of teachers to allow your students to affiliate with you.
  3. On the blackboard, write:
  4. Try launching the game and creating an account for yourself, as your students will do (see below: In class - on the day of the activity ➚).

Before Classroom Activity: Exploration - 15 minutes (optional)

We recommend testing the entire process and trying to use the tool yourself for a better understanding.

  1. Try launching Math Ascension with your own account and start the tutorial. Then complete two races to see how calculations are handled in the dashboard. Also, make sure to make calculation errors and check how they are managed.
  2. In the dashboard, adjust the school's general settings, and check the "Student Progress" tab for an example of the information available. You will find the two ascensions you have completed there.
  3. If desired, install Math Ascension as a WebApp to avoid having to re-enter login information and to allow for a directly clickable application icon for students to launch the game, instead of having to open the browser each time (see below: Install in WebApp format ➚).

Activity sequence

In class - on the day of the activity - 5-10 minutes

  • During the break before the activity: open affiliation from the dashboard to allow new devices to use the school key. Affiliation will then be possible for the next two hours.
  • At the start of the activity, you can tell your students to:
    1. launch the device browser;
    2. connect to the web page indicated on the blackboard;
    3. enter the School key when necessary;
    4. select their teacher from the list;
    5. create an account and select it once created.
    6. Everything is ready. The student can begin.

From this point onwards, the student is generally autonomous and can progress through the learning process on his or her own.

Le Calculisée

Learning review and home access

After the activity - 5-10 minutes (optional)

  • In the dashboard, check students' progress ("Progress" tab). By clicking on a multiplication table, you can see the success rate and resolution time for each calculation.
  • Also in the dashboard, from the student account management page, transmit the Student Keys to parents so that they can benefit from the application at home, free of charge. You'll find a pre-prepared e-mail for easy transmission of information.
    Please note: students must have already created their account for a key to be generated.

Suggested uses

When classes have enough devices so that all students can use Math Ascension during the week, it is entirely possible, and planned, to set up group work. Once the installation phase is completed (see above: In Class - On the day of the activity ➚), experience has shown that students are completely autonomous during their use of Math Ascension.
Recommended session duration: 20-30 minutes depending on age.

If there are not enough devices, it is first necessary for each student to create their account in class (see above: In Class - On the day of the activity ➚). Once this is done, you can simply pass the student keys to parents so that Math Ascension can be used at home instead (which is actually the intended use of this tool).
We have prepared an email ready to send directly accessible in the dashboard for this purpose (see above: After the activity ➚).

For students who struggle more with math, we recommend offering them regular sessions in class and helping them track their progress using the multiplication table mastery gauges displayed in the game. Feel free to ask them to call you at the end of a game to review their mistakes and progress together.
Also, offering them the use of Math Ascension at home will have even more impact once they have recognized its relevance and effects. It has happened that these students become ambassadors to their parents for using this tool at home.

To further enhance learning, we have implemented a system of daily quests. These quests aim to encourage students to select more complex calculations and add challenges during their ascents. Just like the general functioning of the game, the quests increase in complexity based on the students' learning. Therefore, when possible, we recommend encouraging students to solve these quests.
Note: The quests are available as long as a first ascension has been completed, and not before. If your students do not have enough time to complete the quest of the day in class, its progress can be continued at home, provided that the device in class is connected to the internet (and therefore the progress has been saved online).

Install in WebApp format

Two Advantages

Most browsers offer the ability to download a web page directly to the device. Doing so provides two advantages for Math Ascension:

  1. Some schools implement regular browser cache cleaning, which requires re-entering login information each time. When the page is in WebApp format, cached information is not affected.
  2. A page downloaded as a WebApp installs an icon on the device, making it easier for students to find the application.

Procedure

Instructions for Safari

For Safari, add the page to the home screen.

Instructions for Google Chrome

For Google Chrome and Edge, click on the installation icon.

For Firefox, currently, it is necessary to install a browser extension to access this option.
While Math Ascension remains fully playable on Firefox, its use as a WebApp seems unnecessarily cumbersome, and we do not currently recommend it. However, we will update the information if the situation changes.
